Umoja Dance Company

Programs

Umoja Dance Company presents a wide variety of programs geared towards all age groups. The company is prepared to work with the sponsoring organization to design a program specifically to benefit the intended audience. Please keep in mind that UMOJA is a Modern and African Dance Company so please specify which dance form you are requesting. If an African dance is requested, 2-3 musicians must accompany those pieces.

Concerts
Company repertory is a construction and, or fusion of abstract modern and African dance. The movement is innovative, provocative yet forceful and is created from a deep spiritual internal and visceral realm.
Time: 1–3 hours

Lecture Demonstrations
Programs are geared towards general audiences as well as children. Programs incorporate audience participation and are ideally suited for school assemblies, outdoor festivals and large and small group gatherings. The demonstration includes a discussion of the inspiration of the artist, how that inspiration was translated into movement and the significance of the choreography, concluding with a question answer session with the audience and company.
Time: 30-50 min

Choreography Workshops
Interested participants will experience the process of creating movement for oneself or a group of dancers. Participants explore the various methods of choreographing that the Artistic Director uses to create movement. Participants will be given the opportunity to present their work and share their choreographic process.

Workshops for Seniors & Special Groups
Movement programs for senior citizens, academic instructors, and other special groups  can be arranged.
